You don’t see this very often at a big name flamenco show. I didn’t catch his name but this gentleman on the right is apparently one of the few left who knows the old “zambra” dances. The gypsy culture has a series of songs and dances that were played for weddings and other significant events. The history of granada, the guitar, guitar-makers and of course flamenco itself are all bound up in the Albaicin and Sacromonte where this music was played. The experts say that this is not flamenco but without a doubt it had a profound influence on what we call flamenco today.
The guitarist is Luis Mariano and he was playing for the homage to Antonio Marín last night on day two of the Granada Guitar Festival.
